It’s a free fishing weekend in New York state.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo says state residents and visitors can fish without a fishing license this weekend in any of the state’s 7,500 lakes and ponds or 50,000 miles of rivers and streams. Also this weekend, saltwater anglers can fish in marine waters or for migratory marine fish species without enrolling in the Recreational Marine Fishing Registry.
The free weekend is part of the Cuomo administration’s larger effort to boost tourism.
More statewide free fishing dates will be announced later this summer.
