ALBANY — Opening arguments are planned in the Albany murder trial of a 40-year-old Schenectady man accused of hitting a bicyclist during a high-speed chase from police, then driving on with the man wedged in a ladder rack on his pickup truck.

Pablo Cruz is accused of hitting 45-year-old Paul Merges on an Albany street around 1 a.m. on Nov. 24, 2012. Merges was killed. Police say Cruz led police on a two-county chase at speeds of almost 100 mph with Merges trapped on the vehicle.

He’s charged with murder, manslaughter, vehicular homicide and other offenses.

An Albany jury was seated on Monday, with opening arguments planned Tuesday.
