Saturday in Saratoga

In stakes racing at Saratoga Race Course, we’ll see the 76th running of the $500,000 TVG Diana today. The race was named not after English royalty, but after another utterly untameable woman — the Roman goddess of the hunt. The second stakes race is the 100th running of the $150,000 Sanford, which commemorates the Sanford family. Soon after they built their Amsterdam farm in the late 19th century, they wove their name into the fabric of racing culture. Post time is 1 p.m.

Manhattan women have a well-kept secret: when the summer heat melts their makeup, they find a Sephora store, where staffers provide complimentary touch-ups. Now Saratoga women have the same luxury. A new Lord & Taylor pop-up shop at the Saratoga Pavilion will hold Fashion Saturday weekly from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Hats Off to Saratoga festival offers one final night of live, outdoor music on Broadway in Saratoga Springs. New additions to the musical lineup include The Resonators, playing rock ’n’ roll, and Blues Sanctuary, who say they specialize in “searing, riveting, epic blues.” Music plays from 7 to 11 p.m.

Performing his first SPAC show in 11 years, James Taylor will be joined by his all-star band on stage at 8 p.m. Limited lawn tickets are still available online for $40. As a GE “Kids in Free” show, this concert allows one child under 13 to sit on the lawn for free with each adult lawn ticket purchased.

The day before the first free giveaway at the race course, you can pocket a small waterfall of freebies at this morning’s Silks & Satins 5K Run. A $25 online registration fee ($30 if you register on the spot) includes chip timing, an official Silks & Satins 5K Run T-shirt, a goodie bag, breakfast, free parking at the Oklahoma Track, access to showers at the Saratoga YMCA and even a $2 admission coupon for the race course. Even better: One stretch of the route lets you watch thoroughbred horses warming up at the track while you run. Have your sneakers laced by 8 a.m. on the corner of East Avenue & George Street in Saratoga Springs. Proceeds will benefit Special Olympics New York.

All things fresh and delicious are sold at the Saratoga Farmers Market wildly popular outdoor location at High Rock Park. Shop the offerings of 60 vendors from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Solomon Northup’s autobiography only became the film “Twelve Years a Slave” after it was brought to the public’s attention 16 years ago through Skidmore College’s Solomon Northup Day. An actress from the film will speak at this year’s celebration, as will Northup’s direct descendants. The event is in Filene Recital Hall from 12:30 to 6:00 p.m.

You’ve probably seen a stakes race, but harness racing is a different animal. Be at Saratoga Casino and Raceway at 7:05 p.m. to see the action tonight.

A smorgasbord of activities will commemorate Frances Young Tang, the namesake of the Tang Museum, on Skidmore College’s Frances Day. The event begins with a musical performance at noon and ends at 7 p.m. Everything is free.
