Man questioned in Schenectady stabbing, suspicious fire

A call for medical assistance this morning led police to an apparent stabbing victim and suspicious fire, police said.

A man was detained on suspicion of committing both, police said.

The victim, a woman, was found with multiple stab or puncture wounds to her torso. She was taken to Ellis Hospital for treatment. Her condition was not immediately available.

The incident happened just after 9 a.m. at 322 Michigan Ave.

As firefighters treated the woman at the scene, the fire was discovered in the home’s attic.

The fire appears to have been doused before it did any significant damage.

The man was taken in for questioning. Neither his identity, nor the woman’s, was immediately released.

Northbound traffic on Michigan Avenue, from Schulyer Street to California Avenue is closed for the investigation.
