A 3-year-old child was found wandering in the street in only a diaper Monday and the child’s grandmother was charged with failing to watch the child, authorities said.
Rose Douglas, 57, of Congress St., was supposed to be watching the child Monday morning at her Congress Street residence when she fell asleep, police spokesman Lt. Mark McCracken said.
As she slept, the 3-year-old, dressed only in a diaper, wandered out of the residence and into the street.
A passerby found the child alone and tried to find where the child belonged. After being unable to do so, brought the child to the police department.
McCracken said the child was with police for an hour and a half before Douglas realized the child was missing.
She was charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. The child was turned over to its parents.
