Survey to determine spread of Lake George invasive

Volunteers are being sought to help find out whether Asian clams are spreading in Lake George.

The Lake George Park Commission is heading a two-week survey in early September to check the Adirondack lake for new areas where clams have taken hold.

Asian clams and other invasive species were introduced to Lake George by boats from other waters and the government is trying to control their spread to protect water quality.

The Post-Star of Glens Falls reports that the commission is seeking 15 volunteers a day for the first two weeks of September. Volunteers will use boats to access sandy shoreline areas and wade into water to sift through the sand.
