WEST NYACK, N.Y. — Police say a man with developmental disabilities has fallen two stories to his death in a suburban New York shopping mall.
Clarkstown police said the 54-year-old man was on an outing with four others, including one staff member, from a group home operated by the New York Foundling operation. His name was not made public.
The police said the Thursday morning fall at the Palisades Center in West Nyack (NY’-ak) appeared to be an accident. They said the man was standing at the top of the third floor escalator when he somehow went over a railing.
New York Foundling issued a statement saying the safety of people in its care was its top priority. It said it was helping to determine the cause of the accident.
