Jennifer McPhail will be Glenville’s next town justice.
McPhail, 41, a Republican and a senior litigation paralegal in Colonie, out-polled Brian De La Fleur, 45, a Democrat, a private practice attorney and a part-time deputy attorney for Schenectady County, to fill the seat left open by Brian Mercy’s resignation in May.
“I’m just humbled by all the support, and I am very excited,” McPhail said, “and it just proves my point that you can do anything you put your mind to.”
Mercy resigned because the job’s late-night calls interfered too much with his young family. Both candidates said they would be available to work the odd hours of the job, which often entails early-morning arraignments.
Richard Moran, a retired Glenville town justice, is serving as interim judge through the end of the year.
