Education advocates plan to gather at New York state’s Capitol building in Albany for an event they’re calling “Moral Monday.”

Organizers say they want to emphasize the state’s moral obligation to fund education fairly and equitably.

The Rev. William Barber is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the 1 o’clock event. Barber is president of the NAACP in North Carolina and established Moral Mondays in that state.

Among groups participating in Albany Monday are the Alliance for Quality Education, Citizen Action, the NAACP of New York, New York State United Teachers and the Working Families Party.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo is expected to release his proposed budget for the new year on Jan. 27.
