Tasheena Salvary celebrated her 30th birthday the same wild way she celebrated her 21st — at the hospital, giving birth to a baby boy.
She welcomed little Antonio Joejito to the family Wednesday morning at Bellevue Woman’s Center. The 7-pound, 19-inch gift is brother to 9-year-old Xzorion.
Beth Hilson, nurse manager at Bellevue, said in her 30-plus years of working in maternity services, she has never seen a mother share the same birthday with two of her children.
Dr. Hee-Joo Cheon-Schingo, who stopped in Thursday afternoon to check on mom and baby, said she’s only once seen something similar in her 19 years of medical practice — a family with three daughters who shared the same birthday.
Big brother Xzorion was at the hospital Thursday afternoon, sizing up the little guy who now shares a birthday with him and his mom. He said he doesn’t mind.
Salvary, on the other hand, was hoping the new baby — who will be called
Joejito — would be born any day except January 28.
“I already had to share it with him,” the Amsterdam resident said jokingly, motioning toward Xzorion, who was fidgeting near the hospital bed.
Until the baby came along, the family’s birthday protocol was to have one big party for Salvary and Xzorion. Then, mother and son would each have their own special weekend to celebrate.
“Now we’re going to have to switch it up,” Salvary lamented with a smile.
She said she likes the idea of commandeering the whole month of January for parties.
“I deserve a holiday after this,” she said with a laugh.
Along with a birthday, Salvary and Xzorion share personality traits.
“This is definitely my twin,” she said, nodding at her oldest.
Will there now be triplets, personality-wise? She’s not so sure.
“He might be like his dad,” she speculated about Joejito. “His dad’s hoping that this will be his twin.”
Joejito’s dad, Antonio Castro, was not at the hospital Thursday afternoon to voice his opinion on the matter.
Although her boys share the same birthday, Salvary said her experience in labor was very different with each.
“With him, it was a piece of cake,” she said, nodding at Xzorion. “With this one, I truly experienced pregnancy and childbirth. I was laboring all week before I had him.”
Although Joejito caused a bunch of pain during childbirth, Xzorion’s not too worried about his little brother being a big pain from now on.
“I hated to be the only child,” he said.
There’s stuff he plans to teach the little guy, like how to play video games.
“Dad can teach him the bike,” he noted. “I don’t know how to teach the bike.”
