A 22-year-old Syracuse man who opened fire in a bar while holding his former girlfriend hostage took her to a cemetery twice and threatened to kill her before the attack, according to court papers.

Michael Morris faces charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment for the Sunday attack at a tavern where his former girlfriend’s family was celebrating a birthday party.

Court papers show five victims were struck with 12 bullets. Police have since confirmed a sixth victim was struck once. All survived but have not been identified because of safety concerns.

The weapon used also has not been identified.

Morris, who recently served a five-year sentence for stealing a handgun, is being held without bail at Onondaga County Justice Center.
