Scores of schools from western New York to the Adirondacks are delaying the start of school by two hours after temperatures across the upstate region plunged below zero and winds increased.

Most places from Buffalo to the Hudson Valley have below-zero temperatures Tuesday morning, and the National Weather Service has issued wind chill advisories or warnings for much of western and central New York. Forecasters say winds gusting to 35 mph will drive the wind chill down to minus 25 degrees in some areas.

The lowest temperature was in Glens Falls, where it was 24 below before dawn. In Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks, the temperature dipped to minus 22.

Forecasters say temperatures will rise into the 20s in some areas Wednesday.
