No charges will be brought against the police officers involved in last September’s death of a Ballston Spa man whom police Tasered, Saratoga County District Attorney Karen A. Heggen said in a statement today.
Daniel C. Satre, 43, died after fighting with police the night of Sept. 20 and being shocked four times by responding officers, including village police and a state trooper.
Heggen said she met with members of Satre’s family this afternoon and informed them there would be no indictment of the officers.
Heggen presented the case to a grand jury, which she said voted for “findings of dismissal.” She said she obtained a court order allowing her to notify the family. She declined to elaborate on the grand jury’s findings in her statement.
“Pursuant to the Criminal Procedure Law of the state of New York, I am prohibited by law from disclosing any information concerning the nature or substance of any grand jury testimony, evidence, decision, result or other matter regarding a grand jury proceeding,” she said. “Therefore, I will not be providing any additional information regarding this incident.”
Terence Kindlon, the attorney represented Satre’s daughter, has filed a notice of claim against the village of Ballston Spa and Saratoga County. He could not immediately be reached for comment.
