Six more people locally have lost their jobs in the latest round of layoffs at Digital First Media, which owns the Saratogian and Troy Record newspapers.

Among those laid off Wednesday, according to different sources, were Saratogian and Record city editor Charlie Kraebel, human resources director Rhoda Pickus, and J.S. Carras, a veteran photographer based in Troy.

Digital First has sought to operate the two papers as a single newsroom, though they printed different papers. Publisher Michael O’Sullivan did not respond to a request for comment on Thursday, but Digital First, like most media companies, has experienced severe financial strain as more news readership moves online and traditional advertising revenue declines.

The Record building in downtown Troy was recently sold, with the remaining staff moving to rented quarters in Troy.

There were also newsroom layoffs at the papers last summer.

Also on Thursday, Digital First CEO Jim Paton announced in a memo to employees that the Denver-based media company — whose holdings include the Denver Post and San Jose Mercury News — is no longer for sale.
