Niskayuna outscored nationally-ranked Syosset 4-0 in the final quarter, and stunned the Braves of Nassau County 14-11 in a state Class A semifinal boys’ lacrosse game Wednesday at Middletown High School.
Niskayuna (20-2) will take in West Genesee in the state title game Saturday at 1:30 at Vestal High School in Binghamton.
Niskayuna trailed 11-10 with a quarter left, and got goals from Lucas Quinn and John Prendergast before Aidan O’Brien delivered the final two.
Silver Warriors’ goalkeeper was among the numerous standouts with 15 saves, making his last three after O’Brien made 14-011 with 2:39 left.
Niskayuna improved to 3-5 all-time in state semifinals games, including wins against West Islip (Class A) in 2005 and in 2009 against Sayville (Class B) before state championship-game setbacks against West Genesee and Canandaigua, respectively.
No Section II boys’ team has ever won a state title, and Niskayuna is the only area representative to have success at the state semifinal level.
