The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority is providing a $50,000 grant to a city business to help it relocate to make way for a $14 million affordable housing development.
Lakshmi Associates currently occupies a storefront on Albany Street, between an old branch of the Mohawk National Bank and a row of buildings occupied by American Electric Supply Co.
Its building, along with these other structures, will be demolished to make way for the new housing development in Schenectady’s Hamilton Hill neighborhood.
Metroplex is offering the grant to help Lakshmi Associates relocate its West Indies specialty goods store to 852 State St., where it will perform some renovations and add a kitchen.
American Electric Supply Co. will also relocate its business from Albany Street to a new spot on State Street.
