A man who admitted to firing through a window a year ago where a woman had just been standing was sentenced Monday to 14 years in prison.
Jaquan Crawford, 27, of Pearl Street, pleaded guilty earlier to one count of second-degree attempted murder.
He admitted to firing the shots through a Congress Street apartment window June 11, 2014. His ex-girlfriend had just been standing in the window moments earlier, authorities said. She was unharmed.
Crawford was arrested the next month.
Crawford appeared contrite in court Monday. He gave his own statement that was difficult to hear from the gallery.
He referenced mistakes he made in the past, that he wasn’t himself at the time of the shooting and that he would try to make the best of his time.
Monday’s attempted-murder sentence followed a 12-year sentence Crawford received in a related drug case, his attorney, Demo Romanucci, said.
Crawford was charged at the time of his arrest with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, accused of possessing drugs and intending to sell them.
Crawford took the drug case to trial and was found guilty. He was then sentenced to 12 years, Romanucci said.
Monday’s attempted-murder sentence was to run at the same time as the drug case, meaning Crawford’s total sentence is 14 years.
Judge Frank P. Milano commended Crawford for his statements in court at the conclusion of the sentencing.
“The court appreciates those words,” Milano said. “I ask you to follow through on those words.”
Prosecuting the case was Brian Gray. The victim in the case was informed of the sentencing, but did not attend.
