LAKE CLEAR — Police have identified four people killed in a fiery plane crash in the Adirondack Mountains.

New York State Police say Sunday the victims were two couples who were longtime friends.

They were identified as 67-year-old Raymond Shortino and his wife, 66-year-old Sharon Shortino.

The other couple on board, Harvey and Sharon Stoler, both 68, was also killed.

Officials say the Piper PA-46 aircraft went down minutes after taking off from Adirondack Regional Airport around 6 p.m. Friday.

The single-engine plane crashed in a wooded area about three-quarters of a mile northwest of the airport. It’s about 50 miles south of the Canadian border.

A spokesman for the National Transportation Safety Board said the flight was headed to Rochester.

Officials don’t know the cause of the crash. The NTSB is investigating.
