CALVERTON — Police say a New York woman was knocked unconscious after colliding midair with a fellow skydiver who also suffered a leg injury in the accident.
Riverhead Town Police Sgt. Stephen Palmer says Kevin Arcamona’s knee hit Patricia Baronowski in the head while freefalling during a jump at Skydive Long Island in Calverton Saturday afternoon.
He says the 46-year-old Baronowski’s reserve parachute automatically deployed and she landed in a tree about 15-20 feet above ground. She was rushed via a police helicopter to a hospital.
Palmer says the 29-year-old Arcamona was taken by ambulance to another hospital. Their injuries aren’t considered to be life-threatening.
A call for comment to Skydive Long Island wasn’t immediately returned. A 25-year-old man died there last July during a tandem jump.
