Police: Niskayuna man's death not a crime

Niskayuna Police along with the New York State Police are investigating and unattended death at a home at 1917 Union St. at the corner of Highland Park Rd.

A man found dead inside his Niskayuna home did not die as the result of a criminal act, police said Tuesday.

The man, identified as 45-year-old Scott Willoughby, was found by police Monday morning after they were asked to check on his welfare at 1917 Union St., police said.

An autopsy was conducted Tuesday morning. Investigators are awaiting toxicology reports and a specific cause of death, but police said in a release “there is currently no information leading police to believe the death is the result of a criminal act.”

Niskayuna police investigated the case with the help of the state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and state police forensics.

Investigators could still be seen Tuesday morning going into the home with white protective suits. Niskayuna police said the the forensic investigators are still finishing their work inside the home and police will keep it until they are finished.

The home itself is located on Union Street, near Route 7. Willoughby appears to have lived in the home since February 2000, according to county property record. His name has been on the deed since then.

Crime scene tape surrounded the home and the adjacent Highland Park Road Tuesday morning. The side road was shut between Union Street and Millington Road while investigators worked.
