Glenville man on trial for allegedly exposing himself to boys

A town man invited a boy to his home to do chores and then walked around naked in front of the child, a prosecutor told a Glenville Town Court jury Wednesday.

The same man also went into the bathroom at his house naked as another boy showered there, the prosecutor said. A defense attorney questioned the boys’ accounts.

Kenneth Hollenback, 61, of Glenridge Road, is standing trial this week on three misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He is accused of being naked twice in front of one child and once in front of the other.

He is not related to the children but they were known to him.

Glenville police arrested Hollenback in August 2014.

Both prosecutor John Carson and defense attorney Robert Law gave opening statements Wednesday in front of Town Justice Paul Davenport.

Carson told the jury that Hollenback was naked in front of one boy twice at the house, once inside in early 2013 and once by the pool in summer 2014.

Carson also said that Hollenback used his bathroom naked as the second boy showered there after doing paid chores. The boys were then ages 11 and 12.

Carson contended that one of the boys would testify that Hollenback walked around naked while doing household chores in full view of the boy in 2013.

They also used the pool together in 2014 and Hollenback removed his own swimming trunks while in the pool and in the presence of the boy. The incident with the second boy involved the child being able to Hollenback through distorted shower glass.

“This case is about this man, Kenneth Hollenback, getting naked around children who are not his own,” Carson told the jury.

Hollenback’s attorney, Law, asked the jury to pay close attention to the boys’ accounts, suggesting they had ulterior motives.

He also suggested the police made a rush to judgement in the case.

“You’ll hear evidence that will make you say ’Why didn’t the police investigate this?’” Law said. “They just listened to a 12-year-old boy, wrote up charges and they arrested him.”

Testimony began Wednesday. No testimony is expected today. The case could wrap up Friday.
