Gloversville teens charged in assault

Two Gloversville teenagers are facing multiple charges after allegedly attacking a woman while she was walking her dog.

According to the Gloversville Police Department, Charles McCarty, 19, and Steven Pierce, 16, “jumped and viciously attacked” a woman who was walking her dog on North Hollywood Avenue Monday night.

Police said the teens came up from behind and each struck the woman in the face.

Based on physical descriptions, police linked the teens to an incident earlier that evening in which they allegedly harassed a female custodian at Boulevard Elementary School, attempting to lure her outside or let them into the building and yelling obscenities at her.

They were located and arrested Tuesday. Police said too much time had gone by to know if they had been under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incidents.

Police said McCarty became belligerent in the street and was charged with disorderly conduct.

Both were eventually charged with second-degree attempted assault, a felony, and fifth-degree conspiracy, a misdemeanor, in connection with the attack on the woman on North Hollywood. They were charged with third-degree attempted assault and sixth-degree conspiracy, both misdemeanors, in connection with the incident at the elementary school.

Pierce was also charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, for allegedly kicking out the grill of a truck parked in the Boulevard Elementary School parking lot.

They were arraigned in Gloversville City Court and sent to the Fulton County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
