Fulton County sent two teams to Saturday’s girls’ volleyball state semifinals, but neither Broadalbin-Perth nor Mayfield advanced to today’s championship round back at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

For Broadalbin-Perth, last year’s Class C state runner-up, its 1-5 showing in pool play was tough to swallow. The Patriots’ only victory came against Mattituck with a 25-17 decision, that win coming after both Eden — which has won six consecutive state titles — and Millbrook swept Broadalbin-Perth to eliminate the squad.

Eden and Millbrook will meet in today’s noon championship match; Eden went 6-0 Saturday, while Millbrook was 4-2.

Meanwhile, Mayfield left its first trip to the state championship tournament with no hard feelings after a 2-4 showing in the Class D bracket. Despite one starter suffering an injury days before pool play and another getting hurt early in Saturday’s action, Mayfield closed its day with a 25-22 win against Tioga after registering a 25-21 win earlier against defending state champion Portville

“There’s nothing not to smile about,” Mayfield head coach Eileen Rovito said of her team’s performance.

In today’s Class D state title match, Haldane will meet Portville; Haldane went 4-2 during pool play, while Portville went 5-1.

Hudson Falls ousted

In the Class B draw, Hudson Falls represented Section II and did not advance from pool play.

Hudson Falls finished 1-5, topping Owego Free Academy 25-21 in its final set.

Owego Free Academy and John Glenn advanced to today’s Class B title game.
