Power outages hit National Grid customers in the county today, leaving about 30,000 clients without power at some point during the day.

By 5:30 p.m., power had been restored to all but a handful of customers, with Wilton residents experiencing the slowest restoration, National Grid spokesman Nate Stone said.

The outages were the result of a damaged transmission line that feeds power into one of the company’s distribution centers, Stone said, adding that crews would continue to respond to “scattered outages here and there.”

Earlier in the day, Stone said National Grid’s main concern was getting people back on line and power restored. He said the company has more than 90,000 clients in Saratoga County.

The National Grid outage map was reporting over 10,000 outages near Ballston Spa and another 10,000 north of Saratoga Springs this morning. Other outages were in and around Saratoga Springs.

While power went out in many Saratoga Springs schools, all students were reported safe, and school followed a normal dismissal schedule, according to the Saratoga Springs City School District.

About two dozen customers near Central Park in Schenectady also experienced outages today, according to National Grid’s website. Stone said the Schenectady outages were unrelated to the troubles in Saratoga County.
