Mohawk Honda in Glenville opened its $3 million collision center on Tuesday.
After Mohawk Honda moved to the town in 2011, General Manager Nick Bonarrigo said the company is selling more than 5,000 cars each year, tripling its sales, from $57 million in 2011 to more than $150 million projected at the end of this year.
“We service over 140 customers a day and we see them all as part of our family,” Bonarrigo said. “This is a great opportunity for us to continue to service them after they purchase a vehicle.”
The new collision center addresses the simplest to the most complex of collisions, and doesn’t just service Honda customers or people who drive Hondas, Bonarrigo said.
“We service all makes and models,” he said Tuesday. “Last year, over 20 percent of the nation’s collision centers closed their doors, and we’re trying to promote [that] we can fix any make and model vehicle, and be that one-stop, full-service facility.”
The new 24,000-square-foot facility will create between 12 and 24 new jobs, the general manager said. Hiring will continue through the end of next year.
“We also will have an insurance company on hand doing estimates right there,” Bonarrigo said. “We don’t want to say which insurance company yet, but it’s an awesome thing for the customer.”
Mohawk Honda is expecting a 75 percent increase in its collision services sales, according to a release. The company currently services around 35 cars a week but anticipates increasing its service to 80 cars a week by the end of 2016.
Gerry Rosenbarker, the center’s collision manager, said the new facility is also “green,” or environment-friendly.
“We only use what is required to complete the repairs,” he said Tuesday. “We will be eliminating the waste commonly found in most body repair facilities by using water-based Axalta paints, which reduce toxins and VOCs [volatile organic compounds] by 80 percent, as well as recycling all replaced metal parts and installing solar panels to the roof.”
Glenville town Supervisor Chris Koetzle said when he took office in 2011, Mohawk Honda had just moved in.
“They were one of the first projects I worked with,” Koetzle said. “Time has flown, and it’s exciting to see their success. The collision center is a beautiful new facility that has created new job opportunities and will bring more people to our commercial corridors and smaller businesses.
“We’re proud to have it here in Glenville.”
