The Boss is back! Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band play the Times Union Center next month, in a season light on megastars but varied and interesting anyway. Big acts and reggae artists seldom play here in winter, though the Mighty Diamonds play the Bearsville Theater Jan. 30, and the Wailers hit the Colonial Theatre Feb. 14. Once asked why he didn’t come north in the winter, guitarist David Lindley (who plays the Iron Horse Apr. 20) said, “We don’t do snow!”

• Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band at the Times Union Center. Like “The River,” his re-released, beefed-up masterpiece, the Boss keeps rolling on, and on. Expect that mega-album, complete; and hits from before and after. Feb. 8.

• Willie Nile at WAMC’s The Linda. One of our greatest living rockers, period. Solo or in a duo he’s dynamite; with a band he’s positively irresistible. March 12.

• Bonnie Raitt, and the California Honeydrops at the Palace Theatre. The reigning goddess of slide-guitar blues rock and compassionate croon, Raitt remains strong, cool and fun. March 12.

• John Gorka and Cheryl Wheeler at the Eighth Step. Longtime Step faves and fine-folk stalwarts, they mix pathos and punch better than almost anybody. Combining that much range and power at once almost seems unfair. May 13.

• Rosanne Cash at Club Helsinki. Since guesting in her late, great father’s band, this towering singer-songwriter has been on one long, multi-faceted roll as mainstream country star, folk-country troubadour and author. One of our greats in her own right. May 14.

• Sean Rowe at Caffe Lena. Rightly popular for tremendous singing and locally based songs, he may have to play two or three shows a day. Jan. 30 & 31.

• Neko Case at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. A trumpet of a voice powering songs of depth, poetry and range. March 5.
