CSX derailment

A CSX freight train has derailed on tracks about 7 miles west of Schenectady, right across the Montgomery County line near Pattersonville.

Three cars derailed at the intersection of Route 5 and Wolf Hallow Road near Pattersonville at around 4 a.m. Saturday, said Rob Doolittle, a CSX spokesperson.

According to 511ny.org: “The train is upright and one of the three derailed cars is blocking adjacent track at the location.”

Two of the derailed cars were empty, and one was carrying salt, Doolittle said. The cars were part of a 207-car train headed from Selkirk to Willard, Ohio. Other cars on the train are carrying salt, construction debris, cardboard, railroad ties and plastic pellets.

A contractor is currently on site working to get the cars back on the tracks and the train moving again. Doolittle said as on 10:15 a.m., one of the tracks is clear and trains are moving again..

No roads are currently blocked by the derailment.

Amtrak spokesperson Chelsea Kopta said that there are no travel delays as of about 8:20 a.m., as there are no trains in the area, and won’t be for a few hours.
