A male pedestrian was sent to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries Tuesday after being hit by an 18-wheel truck on Erie Boulevard.
At about 5 p.m., the man, who hasn’t been identified, was hit by a PriceChopper truck near Mike’s Hot Dogs and Stewart’s Shops. The man may have been pushed or fell into the path of the truck, according to police.
Officers are trying to confirm reports that the victim was involved in a physical altercation with another individual before being hit, police Lt. Mark McCracken said.
The man suffered serious injuries to his lower body and was taken by Mohawk Ambulance to Albany Medical Center.
The man was conscious and alert when being placed on the stretcher by paramedics. Police were questioning the truck driver on the scene.
The full extent of the victim’s injuries was unclear. McCracken said it is unlikely the truck driver will face charges.
A pool of blood could be seen by the sidewalk where the man was struck on Erie Boulevard. One red sneaker that belonged to the victim also was on the sidewalk.
Police directed traffic as cars backed up on Erie Boulevard in both directions after the accident.
Erie Boulevard will remain closed to northbound traffic until around 9 p.m., police said.
