A portion of State Street in Schenectady will be closed on Tuesday for the completion of the demolition of the Olender building.

Tomorrow from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. State Street between Erie Boulevard and S Ferry Street will be closed to all traffic, according to the city’s Signal Superintendent John Coluccio.

The roads will be closed as Jackson Demolition of Schenectady finishes demolishing the remainder of the former Olender Mattress building at 254 State St. to make way for a new apartment and retail building.

Eastbound traffic will be detoured over South Church Street and South Ferry Street to Erie Boulevard. Westbound traffic should use South Church Street, Coluccio said.

The city is encouraging drivers to plan extra time or consider alternate routes during the demolition period.

Highbridge Development of Schenectady and Prime Companies of Cohoes are planning a 144,000-square-foot building featuring 105 luxury apartments and 9,900 square feet of ground-floor retail space.

The $20 million Electric City Apartments at the corner of State Street and Erie Boulevard are expected to be completed by the end of next year.
