Two Rotterdam residents escaped an early morning house fire today unharmed, fire officials said.
The fire at 2903 Woodbridge Ave. damaged the home and destroyed a back porch area. South Schenectady firefighters managed to prevent the fire from going further inside, Fire Chief Jason Pollard said.
Firefighters were called to the home at about 1:30 a.m. and arrived to find heavy fire on the back porch area, Pollard said.
Firefighters got into the house, halted the fire’s progression and got it out, Pollard said.
“It was a great stop by the crew that was inside,” Pollard said.
The kitchen sustained some fire damage and the rest of the house had water and smoke damage.
The residents, who were awake at the time of the fire, got out on their own, Pollard said. They stayed the rest of the night with family.
The cause remained under investigation.
Rotterdam Fire District 2 and Plotterkill departments assisted.
