Trump to visit Albany on Monday, sources say

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump is expected in Albany on Monday.

Several unnamed sources said Wednesday that Trump will most likely make an appearance at the Times-Union Center Monday night at 6.

Times-Union Center General Manager Bob Belber couldn’t confirm the appearance but said that Trump’s campaign had been in touch with the T-U Center.

“I can’t confirm that, but I can tell you that we have had contact with Trump’s camp,” said Belber Wednesday night. “There is nothing set yet and it is not confirmed. We do hope to hear more tomorrow. It is not definite that he will use the building at this time, but that doesn’t mean he won’t.”

Schenectady County Republican Committee Chairman Michael Cuevas also couldn’t confirm Trump’s appearance, nor could Glenville Supervisor Republican Chris Koetzle.

“I can’t confirm anything, and I really don’t know because I’m all kind of wrapped up with Ted Cruz,” said Cuevas, referring to the Texas senator’s appearance at Mekeel Christian Academy in Scotia Thursday morning. “Something was in the works, but I don’t know.”

Koetzle was hopeful of seeing Trump in Glenville next week, but he is also unsure of what Trump’s plans are.

“I know that something was in the works, but it’s all unconfirmed and I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Coetzle said.

Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton was in the Albany area on Monday. Her opponent, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, hasn’t scheduled a Capital Region visit yet, but Heather Spitzberg of Capital Region for Bernie expects to see him sometime before the April 19 New York primary.

“I know that he definitely is going to be somewhere in the Albany area,” said Spitzberg. “The Bernie people we talk to don’t know yet when, but there is a debate in Brooklyn on the 14th. He might come before that or after, but he will be here before the 19th. That I’m sure of.”
