Former President Bill Clinton will be in Albany on Saturday to stump for his wife ahead of the New York primary, according to sources.
Clinton, who served as president from 1993 to 2001, is expected to visit the Capital Region on Saturday after flying into Albany International Airport, according to officials.
Clinton is planning to stop at the Desmond Hotel in Colonie on Saturday.
The hotel is hosting a two-day Democratic Rural Conference on Friday and Saturday that will feature top national Democrats including U.S. Sen. Kirstin Gillibrand, D-NY, and U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko, D-Amsterdam.
Jack Roddy, sales director at the Desmond, said the Clinton campaign toured the hotel’s event space and that they have been in discussions about a possible visit.
He said since the tour he has not heard back from the campaign as of Thursday afternoon.
The conference’s website says, “The Bill Clinton event is open to the public but it is too late to register for any other conference events.” Clinton is expected speak after Tonko’s keynote address at 9:30 a.m.
Previous plans suggested that Clinton would fly into Albany International Airport on Saturday morning and hold an event there, according to officials.
Clinton’s stop would come following Hillary Clinton’s campaign event at Cohoes High School last Monday. She is seeking the Democratic nomination for president.
Several presidential candidates converged on the region this past Monday, including Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders, the U.S. senator from Vermont, and Republican candidates billionaire Donald Trump and Ohio Gov. John Kasich. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, also a Republican, stopped in Scotia last Thursday.
Clinton and Sanders will participate in a Democratic debate tonight at 9 p.m. on CNN and Time Warner Cable News NY1.
Howard Dean, the former governor of Vermont and Democratic National Committee chairman, is expected in Albany this evening for a debate watch party at the Albany Pump Station.
The state’s primary is on Tuesday.
