Of 18 school districts in the Capital Region reporting numbers, only Canajoharie schools posted an increase in the percentage of students opting out of state math tests compared to last year. The decline, which was based on opt-out data provided by districts after the first day of math tests, follows a similar trend from last week’s English Language Arts tests.

Despite the drop in opt-out rates, the assessments remain a contentious issue and thousands of students across the state are still refusing the tests; in many districts across the region, well over 20 percent or 30 percent of students are not participating in the tests.
