Spring is here and the Schenectady Greenmarket is getting ready to move outdoors after a winter spent in Proctors.
It will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday from May 1 to Oct. 30 on Jay Street, outside City Hall.
Market manager Jennifer Jennings said everybody’s more than ready for spring.
“We’re looking forward to kicking off an exciting, vibrant season,” she said.
There will be more vendors this year than last — 72 in all — and many new names in the mix. Among them are a gluten-free baker; a goat milk dairy selling yogurt, cheese and bottled milk; new distillers and brewers; and new sellers of prepared food including Asian and vegan/gluten-free fare.
“We also have a lot of our old favorites,” Jennings said.
Another new feature this year is the fresh taste table, which will showcase recipes made entirely with ingredients available at the market that day, with an emphasis on affordability.
Absent from the landscape this year will be the street barricades that were in place when the Schenectady Greenmarket moved outdoors in 2015, less than two months after the huge Jay Street fire. The market was able to accommodate all of its vendors despite the obstacles, but had to reduce its outdoor seating.
The demolition and repairs were completed and the street barriers have long since been removed.
