The fire that destroyed a vacant home in Hamilton Hill on Sunday is considered suspicious, according to Schenectady Assistant Fire Chief Mike Gillespie.
Schenectady firefighters responded to reports of a fire on Germania Avenue around 11:15 a.m. on Sunday.
The boarded-up house at 332 Germania Ave. is structurally unstable and is being demolished this afternoon, Gillespie said.
The cause and origin of the fire in not known at this time, he said. Gillespie said it is being labeled as suspicious because the two-family house does not have power or gas.
The house is listed as last owned by Harold Baldwin, according to property records.
Firefighters continue to investigate the cause and origin of the blaze. The area of Germania Avenue will be blocked to traffic for most of the day.
