Family members of a 6-year-old girl severely injured in a car-pedestrian accident Thursday asked for prayers Friday to help her recover.
The girl’s grandmother Barbara King identified the girl injured in the Bradley Street crash Friday as Navaiah King. The girl suffered multiple broken bones and internal bleeding in the accident, the grandmother said.
“She needs all the prayers she can get,” King said. “She really needs all the prayers — she’s only 6.”
The accident happened shortly after 8:30 p.m. Thursday on Bradley Street, near Division, police said.
It remained under investigation Friday, but police spokesman Sgt. Matthew Dearing said the motorist struck the girl after she ran into the road between parked cars. The driver, who police did not identify, stopped, Dearing said. Alcohol, drugs and speed were ruled out as factors, he said.
Paramedics took the girl to Albany Medical Center Hospital where Dearing said she underwent surgery Thursday night. She was in stable condition Friday.
King said the girl’s parents are by her side at the hospital along with other family members and friends. She said Navaiah’s injuries include broken legs and a fractured skull.
