The skies above the Capital Region will begin to light up on Saturday in celebration of America’s 240th birthday.

Johnstown will kick things off with its annual Star Spangled Fireworks Celebration on Saturday night at Knox Field. The evening will start with Kids Summer Fest and live music from local band Flame.

Displays over the Mohawk River in Scotia near Jumpin’ Jacks and Shuttleworth Park in Amsterdam will get Fourth of July weekend started on Friday, July 1, with the show in Scotia preceded by a musical performance at Freedom Park from Rattail Jimmy featuring Alan Payette.

Fourth of July Weekend is a time folks travel to celebrate the holidays with family or at their camps. The show at Sandy Cove on Piseco Lake in Arietta on Friday, July 1, will be among the first shows in the Adirondacks.

A number of displays will take place over the rest of the Fourth of July weekend, including nightly fireworks at The Great Escape in Queensbury from Saturday through Monday as a part of the amusement park’s July 4th Fest.

On the Fourth itself, there will be chances to see fireworks all over the region. Empire State Plaza in Albany will host its annual show, and the skies will light up over Congress Park in Saratoga Springs, Clifton Common in Clifton Park and Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy. There will also be several opportunities in Lake George to catch a light show.
