When Mike Tyler tells you there’s nothing up his sleeve, you have to believe him.

Tyler, 31, is a native of Brisbane, Australia, and one half of what he and his partner and fellow Aussie Christopher Wayne call “the world’s naughtiest and funniest magic show.”

The two men will bring their unique version of hilarious trickery to Schenectady for one night at 7:30 next Wednesday when “The Naked Magic Show” takes center stage at Proctors.

“We realize we have to be a little bit careful what we show in America, but we do promise to get naked and we do deliver,” said Tyler, who was a professional magician for nearly 10 years before joining forces with Wayne a little more than two years ago.

“We get naked, but the show isn’t about two guys standing completely naked on the stage. We start out fully clothed and we kind of work our way into it.”

Tyler and Wayne do all kinds of magic, including an escape act, mind-reading, knife-throwing and an occasional card trick. Their physical appearance also seems to be an integral part of the act.

Wayne “is a proud owner of a freakingly long tongue and an entertainment resume as impressive as his broad climbable shoulders,” according to their website, www.nakedmagicianslive.com, while Tyler is the “complete package of funny, athletic, sexy and good with his hands.”

“The magic is very strong in the show, and it’s quite a variety of magic,” said Tyler. “We were both magicians for years and years before we came up with this concept. So while we promise an amazing magic show, we do it all around some pretty naughty topics. We talk about things that friends usually talk about behind closed doors.”

The show runs about 80 minutes and most of the time Tyler and Wayne are on the stage at the same time.

“We are two best mates having fun on the stage, and that’s the kind of energy we want to bring to the show,” said Tyler. “It’s a theatrical show, so things are pretty constructed. Usually we’re both on the stage together but we do take turns at times. I have a couple of moments when I go solo, and there’s a time where I leave and let Chris have the stage to himself.”

Tyler didn’t get interested in magic until well into his teenage years.

“I had a 9-5 bank job and a degree, and now I don’t use it at all,” he said. “When I was young I was obsessed with super heroes like Superman, Batman, the Ninja Power Rangers. When I got a bit older, around 20, I realized that the closest thing to having super powers was to be a magician. Then, once I started learning about magic I really got into it. I had a pretty fast road to a professional career.”

Tyler and Wayne started their first North American tour in April after having tested the market in 2015.

“We went to Fort Lauderdale, Tampa and Boston last year to give America a little bit of taste of what we were like and to make sure they could understand our accents,” said Tyler. “It went very well, so we decided to schedule this big U.S. and Canadian tour. We’re going to be here for about five months and then it’s on to Scotland.”
