The Glass Tavern, a family-style restaurant, will officially open for business in Glenville next week.

The restaurant, at 115 Saratoga Road in the Socha Office Building, has been in the works for about a year and a half. The business is run by Bill Socha and Christopher Evans, who conceived the idea based on their restaurant in southwest Florida. The restaurant will have a soft opening this week before fully opening next week.

The restaurant is on the ground floor of the building, which includes both commercial and residential spaces. The building, completed in 2014, will be 90 percent occupied with the restaurant’s opening and the addition of The Center for Rheumatology on the second floor.

Richard Usas, chairman of the Glenville Local Development Corp., said the organization conducted a survey of residents a couple years ago regarding what the town was lacking. A family-style affordable restaurant was at the top of the list, he said, making The Glass Tavern a good match for its location.

“We feel it’s going to work very well in Glenville,” Usas said.

The development corporation helped secure equipment financing and some working capital for the restaurant in the early stages of the project, Usas said.
