The Friends of the Central Park Greenhouse will have its annual plant sale on Sept. 17 to help raise money for improvements.

The sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Central Park greenhouse located next to the tennis courts at 180 Ptl. Arthur Chaires Lane.

The plant sale will include perennials, mums, perennial plant divisions from Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners and dried herbs from Roots and Wisdom.

There will also be activities during the plant sale such as gardening demonstrations, greenhouse and garden tours, master gardener question and answer session, free soil testing and raffles.

All proceeds will go toward maintenance and upgrades of the greenhouses at Central Park.

There will also be a preview party from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 16. People who attend will have the opportunity to purchase plants early and participate in raffles.

The evening will include tours of the greenhouses, appetizers made from fresh vegetables grown at the greenhouse and Roots and Wisdom gardens and an auction for a full course dinner for 10 hosted by Dave Siders and Rudy Grant of Experience and Creative Design on lower Union Street.

Over the past year the Friends of the Central Park Greenhouse worked with the city to replace more than 30 panes of damaged or missing glass and received a grant to replace 600 feet of perimeter fencing.
