A 61-year-old man in a wheelchair died after being struck by a car this afternoon at the intersection of Bradley Boulevard and McClellan Street.

Gary Brazzell, of Schenectady, was hit by a car in the area of 450 McClellan St. around 12:18 p.m. on Friday, according to police. Paramedics were performing CPR before he was transported to Ellis Hospital.

Brazzell was in serious condition at Ellis, according to police Sgt. Matt Dearing. Police Lt. Mark McCracken said later in the afternoon that he died from his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Brazzell was in a motorized wheelchair and only had one leg.

Police said Brazzell was traveling south on the eastern side of McClellan Street crossing the intersection of Bradley Boulevard when he was struck by the vehicle, police said.

Police said it appears the vehicle was traveling south on McClellan Street and making a left-hand turn east onto Bradley Boulevard.

The driver of the car is cooperating with the investigation and has not been issued any traffic citations at this time, according to police. Alcohol and drugs have been ruled out as factors.

The investigation is ongoing. The intersection of Bradley Boulevard and McClellan Street was closed to traffic for most of the day. New York State Police assisted with the accident reconstruction.
