There are only five more days to see the sensual paintings that were once viewed in secret by the kings of Spain.
“Splendor, Myth, and Vision: Nudes from the Prado,” which a New York Times reviewer called “a weighty but also steamy exhibition,” closes on Monday, which is Columbus Day, at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
You can download an audio guide at www.clarkart.edu or pick one up at the admission desk.
If it’s a nice weekend, take a hike on one of the museum’s wooded and hilly trails. Or enjoy a snack from the cafe on the outdoor terrace that overlooks the reflecting pool.
At 3 p.m. Sunday, there’s a lecture related to the “Nudes” by an art professor from Wellesley College.
Free admission
The Albany Institute of History & Art is offering free admission from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday because it’s 1st Friday, Albany’s monthly arts night.
Admission is also free on Monday, the Columbus Day holiday.
At 2 p.m. Sunday, you can attend a talk titled “Scanning the Pharaoh” by Dr. Sahar Saleem, a radiology professor from Cairo who has been personally involved in the research of Egyptian mummies.
The lecture is free with admission.
Autumn views
Local artists of any skill level are invited to gather at the Saratoga National Historic Park and paint the autumn colors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday and on Saturday, Oct. 15.
Artists will meet at the visitor center for a brief history lesson then go out on the battlefield to create landscapes.
The finished artwork can be shared via Twitter @SaratogaNHP.
Art in the barn
Fifty-five artists will show their work in the annual “Landscapes for Landsake” exhibit in a historic barn in Washington County.
A fundraiser to support local farmland conservation, the show features local artists whose work is inspired by the region’s working landscapes. The artists donate 50 percent of the proceeds to the cause.
A wine and cheese reception is scheduled from 12 to 5 p.m. Saturday in the barn at Maple Ridge, 172 State Route 372 in the hamlet of Coila, just west of the Village of Cambridge.
Admission is $5.
The gallery is also open from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday and Monday free of charge.
The list of artists is posted at www.agstewardship.org.
