Southern Adirondack BOCES thanks three business partners

Three businesses were recognized Thursday for supporting southern Adirondack BOCES students who are training for careers.

AngioDynamics, of Latham, the Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing and the Fort Miller Group of Greenwich were all given recognition by BOCES as “Outstanding Business Partners” during the Warren-Saratoga-Washington-Hamilton-Essex BOCES Legislative Breakfast at the F. Donald Myers Education Center.

“These three companies have extended unique opportunities and provided human capital in order to provide students in our high schools and career and technology programs with meaningful experiences,” said BOCES Superintendent James Dexter.

AngioDynamics makes medical devices. It started in Queensbury in 1988 and now has 1,400 employees in the United States, Europe and Asia.

The firm has provided high school students with work experience, site tours and classroom speakers. Company director John Stone spoke this year in a recruiting video for BOCES and the company and BOCES are working together on an advanced manufacturing and information technology computer network to help train technicians.

“This area is known as a center of excellence in the medical device industry, and we believe that it is incredibly important to help develop the next generation of STEM students who will consider the medical device industry as a field of study,” said Barbara Kucharczyk, AngioDynamics’ senior vice-president of global operations, who accepted the award Thursday.

The Sagamore Resort was recognized for offering students employment opportunities in all aspects of the 72-acre resort on Lake George, including culinary arts, hospitality, cosmetology, security and horticulture.

The Bolton Central School District golf team is also allowed to use the Sagamore golf course.

The resort “appreciates the ongoing successes of Bolton students, both independently growing into community members themselves and even as part of the Sagamore family of employees,” said Sagamore General Manager Tom Guay.

The Fort Miller Group makes precast concrete for the construction industry, fencing and security systems. It also does metal fabrication.

The company has supported Greenwich Central School student organizations and athletes and has mentored students involved in career exploration. It has also hosted at least one student intern per year.

The breakfast also recognized the state legislators who represent the BOCES’ region: state Sen. Hugh T. Farley, Sen. Betty Little, Sen. Kathy Marchione, and Assembly members Marc Butler, John McDonald, Steve McLaughlin, Dan Stec, James Tedisco, and Carrie Woerner.
