A Wilton woman admitted Thursday to hitting a 9-year-old boy with her car over the summer and then fleeing the scene, Saratoga County District Attorney’s officials said.
The crash left the boy with a fractured skull and jaw, as well as a lengthy rehabilitation, officials said.
Brittni M. Weis, 29, of Wilton, pleaded guilty in Saratoga County Court to one count of leaving the scene of a serious physical injury accident, a felony.
Weis is to be sentenced in January. Such pleas generally include an agreed-upon sentence, but prosecutors did not include the expected sentence in a statement about Thursday’s plea.
State police arrested Weis days after the June 3 crash, which happened at Pyramid Pines Mobile Home Park. The boy, from Greenfield Center, was riding a bicycle on Old Hickory Drive in the park at about 6:30 p.m. when he was struck by a white SUV.
State police said they found the vehicle at a residence in Wilton the next day, after receiving a tip about a white SUV with damage.
Weis eventually surrendered herself to police on June 6. Police said she’d been driving with a license suspended due to failing to answer prior tickets.
Paramedics airlifted the boy to Albany Medical Center. He remained there before being transferred to Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital in Schenectady. After a lengthy rehabilitation, he has returned home, prosecutors said.
“We continue to be impressed with the inner strength of the victim in this case who worked so hard to overcome very serious injuries,” District Attorney Karen Heggen said in a prepared statement.
The state police investigated, and Assistant District Attorney Patrick Campion prosecuted the case.
