Schenectady police continued Sunday their investigation into the shooting death of a man found outside his home in Schenectady.
Police responded early Saturday morning to a report of a body outside of 2436 Campbell Ave. Officers found the man, identified as 49-year-old Charles Dembrosky, with a gunshot wound to the head. The incident is being treated as a homicide investigation, and no new information was available as of early Sunday evening, police said.
Dembrosky lived on the first floor of the two-story building at the corner of Campbell Avenue and 12th Street in Schenectady’s Bellevue neighborhood. The building was still roped off on Sunday with crime scene tape as investigators continued to work the area.
A passerby called police around 7 a.m. on Saturday to report the body. Medics responded to the scene a short time later and pronounced Dembrosky dead at the scene.
Neighbors said Dembrosky had been lying outside the residence for at least a few hours before the body was taken away, although it’s still unclear when he was shot.
The incident is being investigated by members of the Schenectady Police Department’s detective division and the evidence technician unit, police said in a Saturday news release.
The Campbell Avenue incident took place less than a half-mile from 401 Shannon St., which was the scene of a murder-suicide on Nov. 2.
Prior to the Shannon Street crime, there had been four homicides in the city. Each of those killings took place in the Hamilton Hill neighborhood, including the death of Medina Knowles, 17, who in September was shot and killed in her family’s Schenectady Street apartment.
