The National Weather Service in Albany says a winter weather advisory will remain in effect through 7 a.m. Friday.

The advisory affects the western and southern Adirondacks, the Mohawk and Schoharie valleys, the Lake George-Saratoga region, the Capital Region as well as the eastern Catskills and northern Taconics. Three to five inches of snow are expected in the Capital Region, with 4 to 8 inches possible elsewhere. The greatest amounts will be across the southern Adirondacks and Saratoga region. Snow will continue this afternoon before tapering off this evening. Snow will fall at a rate of one-half to one inch an hour this afternoon, the weather service said.
