The harrowing tale of two young people stranded on an Adirondack mountain was our most read story on dailygazette.com in 2016.

“As soon as we got to the top, a massive fog came over the entire summit,” Maddie Popolizio, 19, of Niskayuna, told our ned Campbell from a hospital bed at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Our second most popular story was Steve Cook’s interview with Jennica Duell, the mother of 8-year-old arson survivor Safyre Terry.  She said she hoped to one day be a factor in her daughter’s life. “She deserves more than I’ve given her,” Duell says at one point.

Coming in third was the breaking new story about the possible shooting at Crossgates Mall in November.
