A Saratoga Springs man has been arrested on charges that accuse him of entering a Lincoln Avenue apartment and inappropriately touching an 8-year-old girl while she slept.
Michael A. Capone, 61, was charged Thursday with predatory sexual assault of a child, first-degree criminal sexual act and first-degree sexual abuse, all felonies, according to Saratoga Springs police.
The man was known to the victim and was a regular visitor to the apartment, police said.
“He let himself in, which was not uncommon because he was a friend of the family,” police Lt. Bob Jillson said.
Officers were called to the apartment shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday, after the girl reported the incident to her mother, who was in another room when the alleged act took place, Jillson said.
Police said the girl was asleep on a couch when Capone entered the apartment and subjected her to inappropriate contact. She was woken up by the alleged act, which she told her mother about after Capone left, police said.
Investigators located Capone in the apartment building a few minutes after arriving, police said.
The girl was not physically injured but was taken to Saratoga Hospital as a precautionary measure, police said.
Capone was arraigned in Saratoga Springs City Court and was held on $500,000 cash bail, police said.
