Saratoga Springs names new assistant principal

Saratoga Springs High School is starting the new year with a new assistant principal, but a familiar face.

Johanna Friedman has reprised her role as one of four assistant principals for the high school – a position she held from 2003-07 before teaching English there for nine years. She also previously served as an assistant principal at Bethlehem Central High School and taught at Guilderland High School before that, according to a prepared statement from the school district.

She replaces Eric Schenone, who left the district to become principal of Corinth Middle School in November.

Friedman was recommended for the position by Superintendent Michael Piccirillo, who called her “an experienced teacher and administrator who is well-respected by colleagues, students and parents.” Her appointment, which went into effect Tuesday, was approved by the Board of Education on Dec. 13. She will earn a salary of $87,000.

“We are fortunate to have a candidate of Johanna’s caliber to take over a critically important administrative position at the high school,” Piccirillo said in a prepared statement.

Friedman earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Skidmore College in 1996, a master’s degree in secondary English from Union College in 1998 and a school district administrator certification from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in 2001, according to the school district’s statement. She also holds a permanent certificate from New York State as a school district administrator and English teacher.
