The pedestrian killed in an early Sunday morning crash that occurred under the I-87 overpass on Watervliet-Shaker Road has been identified as 57-year-old Rudolph E. Seabron, a father of three and veteran from Rome, NY, Colonie police said Monday.

Seabron was a member of the 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade headquartered at the New York State Armory in Latham, according to police. He was at the Armory for a weekend drill.

Seabron served in Iraq in 2004, Afghanistan in 2008 and Kuwait in 2012, police said. He joined the National Guard in 1996 after serving in the Marine Corps.

Early Sunday morning a motorist reported hitting what he believed to be a person lying in the westbound lane of Watervliet-Shaker Road. Police interviewed and released the driver, but are looking for a second, unidentified motorist who may have struck Seabron earlier and then fled the scene. Evidence recovered at the scene suggests that the first vehicle may be a Mazda, possibly a Mazda 6. The car would have sustained heavy front-end damage.

Anyone with information is still urged to contact the Colonie Police Department Traffic Safety Unit at 783-2744.
